ABOUT ME

Me!

I've always been drawn to color, but only in my paintings. It's rare to see me walking around outside wearing something that isn't black. Why am I so attracted to color? I'm not sure. It might be my way of expressing how I want to feel and portray, but I'm too scared to change personally, so I project it into my work.

I'm pretty reserved and am not that expressive with my words. I try to express my feelings and emotions through my work. I started my painting journey by painting many abstract and organic forms on canvas. Letting my brush control what I was painting, following my hand and not my mind. When I start creating a piece, I don't go in with a plan. I go into a project not because I have to but because I want to. There is no specific meaning behind them. I created them because I wanted to try something new. I don't believe in always having a purpose behind your work. Create what you want and what makes you happy. You don't have to explain your work to anyone.

I wanted to try something new and push myself to the next level. The abstract paintings and forms I painted on canvas no longer satisfied my eyes, and I wanted to see if I could turn those shapes into something sculptural. I started to make my surfaces to paint on with basswood boards and stuck various pieces together to create a new sculptural work. I started by cutting the pieces out by hand but moved on to using a laser cutter. Still using the same bright colors in my previous paintings, I also started to play around with the shadows and the colors that would project not only from the front but also from the back.
